The Future of Real Estate Agents by Tristan Ahumada

A concern I have about the future of real estate, particularly for real estate agents, is that voice-to-voice technology will eventually extend to creating and submitting contracts, negotiating inspections, and managing nearly the entire transactional process.

While technology will undoubtedly advance—potentially offering AI-driven interactions, virtual reality experiences, and data-driven insights—these innovations will not eliminate the need for genuine human relationships, nuanced conversations, and personalized guidance. In fact, as technology takes over more of the transactional and logistical aspects, the role of a real estate agent will evolve to focus even more on the emotional and psychological support that only a human can provide.

The agents who thrive in this new landscape will be those who can seamlessly integrate technology into their work while deepening their connections with clients. They will leverage AI and data insights to enhance their personal service, using technology as a tool to create more time and space for the human elements of the transaction.

While some agents may struggle to adapt, those who can combine the efficiency of technology with the irreplaceable value of human interaction will not only survive—they will excel.

In a world where technology handles the routine, the agents who focus on relationships will become even more indispensable, offering the emotional intelligence and trust that technology cannot replicate.

  1. Good job Tristan.

Think about it, what of the myriad tasks of the person who we today refer to as a real estate broker or agent, cannot be (now or in the future), done by technology and AI? Driverless cars driving buyers to properties, showing, holding an open house (think robots and security cameras), contract writing, answering questions correctly, even handling “buyer’s remorse” (as AI gets more sophisticated). A good exercise for today’s agents and brokers is to write what they believe their job description will be 5 years from now.

  2. Great overview and I believe the business part of the business will change significantly, but the people part, or relationship building, will still be viable and important. Currently with the NAR settlement changes, communication and negotiating skills are important and I think that will remain. I love the exercise about imaging what you job will look like in 3 years, 5 years, etc. And we must remember that blockchain technology will contribute to changes, not just for real estate agents, but title, lenders etc.
