MLS Listing Data Distribution – “Syndication”

In 2008, the phrase I used to socialize the idea of distributing listing data everywhere was “Distribution Trumps Destination.”

I no longer believe this is true, to the same degree that it once was. Much has changed since 2008, and much will change in the real estate industry in the next few years.

A listing is a marketing asset and a lead generation tool. The current (and longstanding) model of real estate compensation is a contingency model. Brokers and agents pay for the marketing efforts out of their own pockets. In the future, it may be recognized that part of that compensation is the business a listing brings to the listing broker.
