Happy New Year!

New Year’s Eve 1973 – 50 years ago…
USS Mount Vernon (LSD 39) spent New Year’s in Hong Kong. It was our mid deployment break and we spent Christmas and New Years 1974 in Hong Kong.
I was (A)uxiliary Division Officer. Responsible for everything mechanical aboard ship except Main Propulsion…Cranes, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, Emergency Diesel Generators, Small Boat Engines, Laundry, Anchor Windlass, Stern gate, Deballast air compressors, Machine Shop, Tool Room, and a whole lot more.
    I was 24 years old and a little more than a year out of the Naval Academy. Mount Vernon was a member of Amphibious Ready Group (A)lpha.
